Poetry in a Talent Show

Young DCU student Holly Ann Treanor will be on TV on Sunday night, in RTE's All Ireland Talent show. I don't watch a lot of TV at all, and it was a friend who put me on to this, but it's fascinating to see a poetry act being featured on television. Have a look at her audition clip and see what you think.

She looks like Cecelia Ahern's cooler twin sister.
But, Lordy, what's with the English accent??!! What's wrong with her own accent?! It was so distracting I could barely hear the poem.
Still, I admire her get-up-and-go, and her uniqueness and she is damn cute.

Since watching some of the Peter Kay spoof of these talent shows I find it even harder to watch them. They are almost beyond cliche!

Still she sounded...OK...quite like some of the American poets on YouTube that Claire Askew has posted on her One Night Stanzas in the past and a bit Kate Nash (ugh). Her smile was a bit...intense...to the point of terrifying...but then nerves and all that. She'll get plenty of stick from other poets no doubt...how they love to pick each other to pieces...brave girl though.

I think her guts are admirable - it's no mean feat to get onto TV in the name of poetry; when was the last time you saw someone doing poetry on a talent show - it's usually singing that people are chosen for.

Fair dues to her - she did well, I thought - couldn't quite hear everything though - loved the judges' reactions and all their chuckling.
She'll probably go far ...she was really quite endearing. : )
Don't know if the supposed 'real' poets will lay claim to her though...

I thought she was great. Anything that lets the public know poetry can relevant to today's life, not confined to school books. and poets are not all dead white guys. bring it on
